The Canadian government has set a goal of having a green economy by 2035.

To achieve this, the government plans to have 100% of car and passenger truck sales be zero-emission by 2025.

The Government of Canada is taking action to reduce pollution from every sector in the economy -  including transportation which actually accounts for one-quarter out total greenhouse gas emissions.

The Canadian government has announced that by 2035, all new light-duty vehicles and passenger trucks sold in Canada will be zero-emission. By speeding up Canada's previous goal of 100 percent purchases by 2040, the plan also quickens the country's transition to electric cars. Minister of Transport the Honorable Omar Alghabra, Environment and Climate Change Minister Jonathan Wilkinson, and Canadian Heritage Minister Steven Guilbeault made the announcement during a news conference at Parliament Hill.

The federal government plans to invest in and regulate the Canadian transition to 100 percent zero-emission vehicle sales by 2035. Furthermore, it will set interim 2025 and 2030 target goals with its collaborators while also developing additional possible measures that may be required after Canada's light-duty vehicle greenhouse gas emissions standards have been met.

In addition to the existing efforts supporting greater adoption of zero-emission vehicles, today's announcement includes new incentives for purchasing these types of cars. Investments in charging infrastructure and collaborations with automobile manufacturers to create zero-emission automobiles are examples of this. These measures will assist Canada reach its goal of 100 percent zero-emission vehicle sales by 2050 while also establishing a prosperous net-zero emissions economy.

The Canadian and United States government are collaborating to create a strategy that would be in line with the most demanding light-duty vehicle carbon emission standards in America. By supporting a fruitful North American automotive sector as it changes over to zero-emission vehicles, we are not only helping Canada reach its climate change targets but also giving workers from both countries an opportunity to financially benefit from this worldwide transformation.
